Frequently Asked Questions
Q – What about SEO, do you do that ?
Yes we provide SEO services but we don’t shout about it because so many people are offering it and
making a lot of dubious claims and we don’t want to be associated with that. If a client wants SEO we
will just quietly get on with it, but also tell them if we think it is inappropriate. For example, quite
a bit of the work we do is tailored towards particular promotional campaigns, which often have a deadline.
There are other more effective methods of driving targeted traffic to a site than SEO in these cases.
Regarding our SEO credentials
www.hoteljobswop.com is a site we maintain
and it has front page google ranking on some very competitive key words e.g. hotel jobs.
Q – I’ve heard that using Flash ruins any chance my site has of getting a good google ranking. Is this true ?
Up to fairly recently many search engines could not read content in a Flash file. This has changed with Adobe working with the search
companies to give them access. The best approach is the one we take on this site, use Flash for what it's good at graphics, animation or
video and embed it in crawler friendly ASP.NET or HTML site. A win, win solution.
Q – I can host my videos free on YouTube, why should I pay you to do it ?
YouTube exists to benefit the shareholders of YouTube, not your business. When you host your video on YouTube, they
will run adverts from your competitors or recommend other videos similar to yours, often offering a competing product. Do you
really want your next potential client watching an advert from a competitor on your home page ? It happens, we have had several clients where this was the case!
Don't want to pay us? Download the free video player from our products page and do it yourself.
Q – How can I change stuff on my site without having to pay you to do it?
You need a content management system (CMS). Solvexx is expert in the use of
DotNetNuke,
one of the largest, open source, CMS platforms there is. We regularly deliver systems using it and we chose it for several reasons:
1. It’s open source, so if it does not do something someone needs we can extend it. In fact we have developed several new plug
in software modules for DNN to meet specific client requirements.
2. It’s free and means we can give clients even better value for money.
3. It’s based on one of the mainstream, and arguably the most productive of the current web development technologies. ASP.NET and SQL Server from Microsoft.
4. It has a huge user community with loads of free stuff that can be added to it as well as some great commercial modules from lots of suppliers.
5. Due to all of the above Solvexx does not lock clients into dealing only with us, so even though we do our utmost to make sure you would never want to,
if you did want to change technology supplier, you can.
